Adventures in Hand Printed Lampshades
Design, print and create a lampshade in a two-day collaborative masterclass
Available spots
Join Aimée Alice Payton and Albert Harvey for this very special two-day workshop. With two expert tutors you will design and carve a textile block, hand print it onto linen and make your own beautiful lampshade with the printed fabric. From the first sketch to the final glowing light, the tutors will guide you through the different stages of the process to make a unique piece for your home. On the first morning, Albert and Aimée will guide you in developing a design motif for a classic French empire shaped lampshade. Together they will discuss pattern placement, colour and how printed fabric interacts with light, helping you to create a bespoke design that works perfectly for your shade. In the afternoon, Albert will introduce you to the tools and techniques of traditional lino block printing and demonstrate how to carve your block to form your design. On the second day, after you have finished carving your block Albert will guide you to mix the ink from pigments and hand print your design onto linen fabric. Aimée will then show you the lampshade making techniques and once your printed fabric has dried will guide you step by step through the process of making your lampshade, showing you how to apply the fabric smoothly to the frame and achieve crisp, professional edges. This is a small group workshop in the generous and beautiful space of The Coaching Barn. You will leave the workshop with a unique hand printed lampshade made entirely by you.
