Available spots
11th July 10am - 4pm ON THE DAY This workshop offers an introduction to hand stitching upholstery techniques through a satisfying and useful project; completed in a day with a small group and plenty of individual guidance. Aimée Alice Payton’s relaxed one day workshop will draw on her upholstery practice to guide you through the process of making a supportive yoga bolster or domestic cushion using natural upholstery materials and she will introduce you to hand stitching techniques commonly used in traditional upholstery. You will begin by learning how to build a supportive structure which is shaped and stitched by hand to form the inner structure of the bolster using upholstery material . You will then fill it with natural fibre textiles, avoiding flame retardant treated fabrics, making use of offcuts from upholstery that might otherwise go to waste. You can make it firm for supporting you in yoga and pilates poses, or soft for domestic use. Once the bolster is packed and shaped, you will add a soft outer layer of cotton wadding and wool felt. Aimée will show you how this layer can be secured neatly in place with hand stitching, creating a smooth and supportive cushion. Finally, you will make a simple removable drawstring cover for your bolster using a sewing machine. By the end of the day you will have created a beautiful and practical yoga bolster to take home . TAKE HOME A supportive natural filled bolster cushion for exercise or your home, complete with a removable fabric cover. TOOLS AND MATERIALS - All tools and materials will be provided. - This includes natural fibre fillings, cotton wadding and a choice of suitable fabrics for the cover. - Sewing machines will be available, however if you want to bring your own, please feel free.
