
The Art of Printmaking with Lino Lord
Lino printing, carving, and making your own artwork in this creative two-day workshop.
Description
DAY ONE With a warm welcome and introduction Mark will guide you through the materials required. He will demonstrate using the tools to create different marks carved on the lino and how these will print on the paper, as well as how to use the sharp tools safely. There will be time during the day to practice carving on a small test block before printing and Mark will help you explore and experiment with different mark making techniques and printing methods . After lunch there will be an opportunity to draw in the local surroundings to gather inspiration or bring your own ideas to work from. After this you will start to carve your main lino block design, with time to do a smaller test block. DAY TWO The workshop continues with working on carving your main lino block design. Followed by using a range of printing methods to create a series of your own prints to take home. Mark will be on hand to guide and support you through the process of carving and printmaking. MATERIALS AND TOOLS All tools and materials will be provided. ADVISORY NOTE Sharp tools are used for carving the lino. WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU Printmaking can sometimes be a bit messy so please wear suitable clothing. You may like to bring your own ideas to work from or draw inspiration from The Coaching Barn surroundings. TAKE HOME Your lino prints on paper from your own design ready for framing or making into a card. Printmaking kits designed by Mark will also be available to purchase. ABOUT YOUR TUTOR Mark Lord aka Lino Lord, is a professional photographer whose 25-year career behind the camera led to a passion for capturing the essence of the natural world, his heritage growing up on the Cornish coast and the people that look after their small corner of the world. In 2019 he set up a studio space at home and started carving lino blocks. Mark finds that inspiring others to start their journey with printmaking is particularly a rewarding part of his own printmaking journey. Lino Lord prints lean into the rich history of craft from Cornwall, embracing timeless techniques to capture fascinating natural and iconic imagery. From the naive folk art of rural England to the St Ives school of artists, retro-chic contemporary objects, and simple Scandinavian design, Lino Lord’s work embodies a natural, distinctive style.

We are keen to help anyone with an ailment or disability attend our creative workshops. If you have any concerns please contact us directly and we will discuss with you the appropriate actions we can take to help you. Training will be given, however participants must be aware that sharp tools may be used and you must take responsibility for your own safety. We are unable to offer refunds 28 days before the workshop starts unless another person is able to take the place. Contact us directly if you are no longer able to attend and we will endeavor to find someone else. In case of cancellation you will receive a refund or the opportunity to attend another workshop. While all measures are taken to ensure the safety of your belongings on the day, we are not liable for any loss or damage.
